Student Growth
Median Student Growth Percentile (SGP) — 50 is the statewide median.
New Jersey measures academic progress through Student Growth Percentiles (SGPs). Each student in grades 4 through 8 receives an SGP that compares their academic progress from one year to the next against students with similar prior test scores, referred to as academic peers. SGPs are calculated for ELA in grades 4 through 8 and for mathematics in grades 4 through 7. Mathematics SGPs for grade 8 are not calculated because many students in grade 8 take the Algebra I end-of-course assessment instead of the grade 8 grade-level assessment.
A school's median SGP (mSGP) is the value in the middle when all student SGPs are ordered from lowest to highest. SGPs fall between 1 and 99 and are grouped into three categories: under 35 (Low Growth), 35–64 (Typical Growth), and 65 or higher (High Growth). Student growth data was not reported for 2020-21 or 2021-22 due to the cancellation of statewide assessments in 2019-20 and 2020-21.
